In 2014 we were asked to undertake a feasibility study for Ranelagh Primary School in Newham, London, with the ambition of expanding from 2.5 to 3 forms of entry.

The school is accommodated in a grand three-storey Victorian building. However, as education provision has changed over the last century, internal modifications to keep up with pedagogical developments have not always been fit for purpose.

Our proposal is a two-storey extension that complements the Victorian building and accommodates a new nursery, studio, entrance and front-of-house administrative facilities. All early years classrooms are located on the ground floor, with good access to the outdoors.

The extension helps the school with its aims to improve and expand out-of-hour community use of school facilities, incorporating better accessibility and clearer wayfinding on all parts of the site.
