In 2008, Walters & Cohen was appointed alongside EC Harris as Technical Advisor on the design of the Harold Hill Learning Village, a large-scale education project in the London Borough of Havering. The village comprises four new learning environments: a primary school, an SEN school, the 1100 place Drapers’ Academy and an FE college to educate the young people of Harold Hill. In this role we assisted in the completion of the Outline Business Case (OBC) for the Learning Village and the new Drapers’ Academy. The Technical Advisory role happened in conjunction with our masterplan of the whole Harold Hill Learning Village site.

We prepared the OBC for the Drapers’ Academy with the multiple sponsors, developing the brief and analysing the education vision to ensure that the building meets the requirements of all its stakeholders. In this role we gained invaluable experience and understanding of the process involved in the development of Academies.

It is hoped that the Learning Village will offer excellent resources and promote regeneration in the community.
