The International School of London (ISL) in Surrey welcomes children of all nationalities and is aiming to be an IB World School. The school’s ambition is to offer an ‘all through’ education from nursery to Year 13, and pupil numbers are expanding: over a few years, the school has grown from 85 students to 230, and the plan is to further expand over the next three years. Walters & Cohen was appointed in 2014 as architect to enable this expansion to happen smoothly.

The proposal is to improve the existing accommodation for primary school pupils, adding a new building for secondary school pupils. This will include dining and kitchen for the whole school community, and facilities for sports, science, drama, music, art and design, IT and technology, languages and general teaching classrooms, as well as library and learning resource centres for both primary and secondary pupils. New facilities for teaching and administrative staff will also be accommodated in this new building. The school is sited on a large, open green space, and the new parking and landscape strategy improves the outdoor environment.
