New project: Twyford Abbey
In late 2016, Walters & Cohen won an invited competition to design a new secondary school at Twyford Abbey in west London.
Twyford Abbey is a Grade II listed building close to Hangar Lane Station in the London Borough of Ealing. After standing derelict for 28 years, the 19th century Abbey is in a serious state of disrepair and is included on the Heritage at Risk Register by Historic England.
Our proposal for the site refurbishes the Abbey for administrative and sixth form use, and introduces two new buildings for teaching, sport and dining facilities. The extensive and varied grounds allow for outdoor learning, making the most of the historic walled garden, open parkland and mature woodland. Creating a barrier against the noise and pollution of the adjacent North Circular is a significant design challenge.
The project presents a rare and exciting opportunity to work on a brand new school, and we are pleased to work with an enthusiastic and forward-thinking client and design team.
