Work Experience Goes Supersize!
After receiving many excellent applications for this year's work experience programme, we couldn't whittle down to 12 students as originally planned, so 20 students descended on King’s Cross for a tour of buildings old and new.
Their task: design a pavilion for a local company on one of three sites around Granary Square. The rest of the week was conducted online, with each group given a mentor. Lunchtime talks covered sustainability, a look at Walters & Cohen’s projects, and a day in the life of an architect.
On Friday, each student presented their project. So many clever ideas blew us away! And all completely unique responses to their brief and site. We were particularly impressed with their thoughtful appreciation of the site context, materiality, client ethos and guests’ needs.
It was a whole office effort, but special thanks to Michál for leading the tour and swotting up on the history of the area, to Cindy and Olivia for lunchtime talks, to Hannah and Lucy for organising, Jovan for Teams wizardry, and Marianne, Ulrike, Kat, Tom and Alice for mentoring. And thanks to our students, who should be very proud of themselves.
But what do we do next year?
