In 2012 we were commissioned to refurbish and extend a house in West Hampstead, London.
Refurbishment on the upper two floors provides a study, two small bathrooms, two bedrooms and an en-suite master bedroom. The majority of the work was undertaken on the ground floor, opening up the existing layout to provide a generous, open and contemporary kitchen/living space. Due to extensive demolition of load-bearing elements, good coordination with the structural design was essential to the programme and success of the project. A small extension to the rear of the property allows a rooflight to bring light into the kitchen without compromising the neighbours’ or the clients’ privacy.
It was a pleasure to work with a genial client who had a background in design and was highly involved in the design process and choice of finish. Fittings and materials are of a high spec; bespoke joinery by Jack Trench creates crisp, clean lines and ample storage, and lighting by Karen van Creveld defines and warms the spaces.
