Walters & Cohen was appointed by the Lady Eleanor Holles School to masterplan the school site and deliver a new arts complex to celebrate the school’s tricentenary in 2013. The school is set in a thirty-acre site, located in Metropolitan Open Land.
A space audit in consultation with staff and students considered usage and whether spaces were fit for purpose; this informed the masterplan. Aspirations for the masterplan included:
A clear, inviting main entrance to reflect the character and ethos of the school
A new arts centre to include student entrance, dining, kitchen, theatre, art and design studios, and music teaching facilities. The proposal is largely new build but includes the refurbishment of some accommodation in the existing building.
A new two-storey locker building located adjacent to the gymnasium to provide a locker for each pupil and additional toilet facilities. The building is approximately 640m2 including vertical circulation to the first floor.
Existing locker area to be converted to new classrooms.
Refurbishment of sixth form common rooms.
Refurbishment of staff work areas.
Refurbishment and upgrading of science laboratories.
